Rockhopper Sea Kayaking

Rockhopper Sea Kayaking is an excellent way to spend a day or two and you will quickly learn why Fort William has been branded the outdoor capital of the UK.

Kayaking is a stimulating way to experience the rugged Lochaber coastline, or some of the serene local lochs. With an abundance of wildlife in the Fort William area, the chances of encountering seals, otters, basking sharks or one of the large variety of coastal birds in their natural habitat are a frequent trip highlight. Whether you are new to water sports or an old pro, Rockhopper offers half, full or multi-day trips for families, groups and individuals. Below, there are a few examples of possible trips, but there are many more on the Rockhopper website (link below) and there is also the possibility to arrange a tailor made trip to suit you.

Go on, give it a go!

Sound of Arisaig:(full or half day option)

Protected by hundreds of small tidal islands known as skerries, Arisaig bay is an ideal spot to begin an adventure. Home to a huge variety of sea and wading birds, colonies of seals and a thriving otter population. Weather permitting, we may journey up the coastline towards Mallaig past the famous ‘Silver Sands’ of Morar whilst taking in stunning views of the Inner Hebrides.

Loch Eilt: (half day only)

Easily missed on the spectacular Road to the Isles, Loch Eilt is an inland loch that makes for an ideal ½ day introduction to Sea Kayaking. Its panoramic mountain views are made even more dramatic by the daily passing of the Jacobite Steam train, which can be viewed alarmingly close from under a bridge on the loch!

Multi-Day Camping Trips

There is no greater feeling than packing all your camping supplies into a kayak and paddling off into the wilderness for a couple of days.

Due to popular demand we are continuing to run our very popular 2-Day Overnight Camping Trip, designed to give you an insight into what sea kayaking is all about. These trips are aimed at beginners and experienced paddlers keen to discover the freedom of wild camping.

With the Inner Hebrides, the Ardnamurchan Peninsula and the Isle of Skye as your backdrop, you will paddle past some of Scotland’s most beautiful and unspoiled beaches and islands and will encounter coastal wildlife up close. Set up camp for the night and enjoy an evening under the stars in a remote and rugged landscape. Maybe try a spot of fishing or beach combing in the evening or relax round the campfire and take in the incredible scenery.

Based from either the Sound of Arisaig, Loch Moidart or Loch Ailort, the price includes a three course evening meal, breakfast & two lunches, camping equipment plus two full days of Sea Kayak guiding and coaching. Plus free pick up and drop off if required.
